|Message from the President
Garden Club of St. Augustine, March 25, 2020
TO: ALL GARDEN CLUB OF ST. AUGUSTINE MEMBERS
FROM: Shirley Bonner, President
In the interest of the well being of all of our members, the Board of Directors
has decided to close the Garden Club and stop all meetings and gatherings
at our building and at private venues. We will shut down our building and
activities until we are advised by Governor De Santis and the St Johns
County Health Department that it is safe for our Membership to resume
We suggest that any business that must be conducted or a permanent
Committee that must meet do so via email, telephone or video conferencing
(if your group has that capability.) This directive may put a burden on many
of you. Board members will be available to provide guidance and advice on
any issues that arise.
The Tour of Homes will continue as deemed appropriate under the guidance
of Virginia Cunningham and the Tour Committee. Some upcoming issues,
such as membership, will be handled on a Circle by Circle basis via email or
telephone with the appropriate Circle Officers.
As described in the email of 3/23, the Board encourages each Circle to
consider designating a member to grocery shop for members who are not
able or who should not leave their homes. Where possible, shoppers may
want to go during the designated senior hours of 8-9 AM Monday - Friday at
Winn-Dixie and 7 -8 AM Tuesday and Wednesday at Publix. While keeping
the necessary social distance, your Circle shopper may want to include
picking up and delivering medications. Whether we are shopping or staying
home, we should use disinfecting wipes and/or sprays, hand sanitizer and
masks, if we have them.
Washing hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap and water after
handling anything that is potentially contaminated is still the best method of
keeping safe from Covid-19.
We encourage you to be creative in keeping safely in touch with your
members by phone chains, email chains, Ecards or “snail” mail. The Board
of Directors is asking that each of you make your first priority keeping well. I
look forward to seeing each of you healthy and involved in Garden Club of
St. Augustine activities in the near future.
President, Garden Club of St. Augustine
